History

On the night of January 16th, 2017, I had this vivid memory come to me of a book that I read when I was a young boy, titled “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. The short synopsis, it's about a boy, Brian, who is in a plane crash on his way to visit his father when his pilot has a catastrophic heart failure. His plane goes down in the middle of nowhere (somewhere in the Upstate New York wilderness), and he must learn to survive in the wild with little resources and await rescue. It's a thrilling story of adventure, bravery, overcoming fears, and survival.

One of those few resources he has is of course the hatchet that his mother gave him for his trip. The hatchet has long been known as a symbolic, reliable, and trustworthy tool for the outdoors man. The book holds a very nostalgic place in my heart, and I’m sure that it holds that very same place for many young men that grew up reading it, and that is where Hatchet was born.

I’ve always been a big dreamer, and an adventurer at heart. I long for experiences that inspire me through nature, and exploration. I have a sense of wonder in me that just seeks out the unknown, and the challenges that it offers. On the other hand, I also like to spend my time in the cities exploring there as well, and I like to look good doing both of those things.  I want my apparel and gear to be a blend of both of those worlds, to be timeless, functional, stylish, durable, and to create as little impact as possible on the world that we love exploring. The desire is to create staples in your closet and life so that you don't need to have two separate wardrobes, one for the mountain, and one for the city.
